Baileigh’s line of vertical milling machines are the perfect fit for any machine shop or tool room. All of our vertical mills come with NST 30 or 40 spindles for an extra rigid transfer of power from the inverter driven (most are Yasakawa®) head. Meaning no pulleys and gear drives but only offering solid power to the cutter for heavier cuts and longer tooling life. The inverter drives also means that each model is variable speed.

Power drives are on the X, Y, and Z as well as Digital Read Outs (DRO’s are Mitutoya® in most cases) on several axis allowing for smoother chip removal, hands free operation, and tight tolerances. On most models of our milling machines there is an Air Draw Bar system to easily load and unload tooling.

Heavy Meehanite® castings and hardened and ground ways treated with Turcite® B coatings ensure heavier cuts and offers very tight tolerances for decades of service. Each machine is finished off nicely with way skirts, coolant skirts and a Halogen Light for good visibility. A Baileigh vertical knee mill is finished properly and all features are factory installed offering the customer the confidence that our milling machines are of a higher quality than most.

Vertical Milling Machine - VM-942

Baileigh’s VM-942 milling machine is solidly built with tons of standard options for an economical price. The casting of the machine is forged using Meehanite® for extra rigidity meaning, less vibration, offering better tolerances and longer tool life. The spindle on the head is a robust NST # 40 which offers a better transfer of power from the variable speed transmission, than an R-8 spindle would.

The X, Y and Z axis of the VM-942 milling machine are induction hardened, then surface ground and finally treated with Turcite-B® offering a longer and more precise life. All three axis have a power feed that is coupled to a three axis DRO (digital read out). The J-Head is variable speed producing speeds as low as 60 up to 4200 RPM.

Milling Machine VM-949

220 Volt Single Phase Variable Speed Vertical Milling Machine. 9" x 49" Table. Yasakawa Inverter Head Standard. NT40 Spindle Taper. Power Feed on X, Y, and Baileigh’s VM-949 is a great vertical milling machine for any small to medium machine shop or fabrication shop. Like all Baileigh machines, it’s packed with tons of standard features that are options on most other brands.

To make the VM-949 extra rigid we start with a heavy Meehanite® Casting and couple it to extra hardened ways that are coated with a Turcite® B coating for longevity and better tolerances. The Spindle is a NST 40 spindle instead of the industry standard R-8. This heavier spindle gives rigidity to the head and deploys less vibration reducing chatter. All of this allows for more chips to be made in one pass and it also allows the machine and tooling to last much longer.

For ease of operation this vertical mill has powered X, Y and Z axis. The X and Y axis utilizes a Mitutoya® DRO – digital read out for positioning down to 1/10 of a thousandth of an inch. The VM-949 turret mill is powered by a Yasakawa® inverter drive, meaning the machine has variable speeds. Thus to increase or decrease the speed you simply turn the speed potentiometer to the desired RPM as displayed on the digital readout. By eliminating the gear and pulley transmission the machine has almost no slop which again reduces chatter, prolongs cutter life, and prolongs machine life.

Milling Machine - VM-1054

Baileigh’s VM-1054 vertical milling machine is a great sized mill with a 10 inch by 54 inch table allowing for ample work pieces to be milled to very tight tolerances. Baileigh prides itself regarding the quality construction of our vertical mills.

We start with a heavy Meehanite® casting that offers a very rigid base and strong extension head. For further rigidity we incorporate boxed ways on the Y and Z axis. The XYZ powered feeds use ball screws to transfer the power positively with no vibration during the transfer. All the ways are treated with Turcite® B to extend the life and accuracy of the machine. Standard are way skirts to assist keeping chips from scratching the ways, again to increase accuracy and extend way life.

The heart of Baileigh vertical milling machines is the power source to the main spindle. The ensure rigidity we have as standard a Yasakawa® inverter drive that has variable speeds with high torque across the spectrum. The transfer is made from the motor to the spindle drive by a heavy HTDT belt which virtually eliminates any possibility of vibration or chatter as the machine ages, compared to gear transmission style or pulley style drives. The drive spindle which is one of the most important parts of the machine is a heavy NST 40 style spindle. Again we think the transfer of power to the cutter is very important to have great tolerances while increasing the life of the tooling.

From a positioning standpoint our XandY axis uses a very accurate (1/10 of 1 thousandth of an inch) Mitutoya® digital read out. Central lubrication is standard to increase the life of the machine. The NST 40 spindle has an air drop bar system for quick insertion and unloading of tooling. All of the quality standard features listed above are factory installed properly the first time.

Vertical Milling Machine VM-1258

Baileigh’s VM-1258 vertical milling machine is Baileigh’s premier knee mill and is very heavily built to take heavy cuts of material. This vertical mill has a very heavy Meehanite® casting base and head. The internally driven XYZ axis use ball screws to move the carriages on boxed ways that are coated with Turcite® B for longevity and less friction.

We have eliminated the J-Head adjustment to make this a rigid head machine. This alone improves the rigidity by almost 30%. Combine that with a Yasakawa® inverter drive that uses a heavy HTDT drive belt to turn the very rigid NST 40 spindle. The spindle is positively held in place using a air bar system for quick tool changes and a lock solid hold adding to the rigidity of this fine vertical milling machine.

The finish on this knee mill is impeccable and all the features are factory installed so everything has been done right the first time. The X and Z digital read out is a Mitutoya® DRO that is extremely accurate down to 1/10th of a thousandth of an inch. The DRO features inches or metric. The ways are protected from sharp chips with way skirts.
