Static Type Phase Converters permit the starting of 220 Volt three phase motors on 220 Volt single phase current. This allows the use of industrial machinery where standard industrial power is unavailable or too expensive to install.
Static Type Phase Converters are available in horse power sizes from fractional to 10 HP. They convert single phase power to 3 phase starting current. You should select your converter so that the horse power of the largest motor you will need to run is within the converter's horspower range. Oversized or undersized static phase converters may not operate correctly. Once the largest motor is running, smaller motors may be started one at a time, even if they are not within the converter's horse power range. Do not size the converter to the total HP of machines needing phase conversion. Motors perform with up to 70% of their normal power. Transformers and rectifiers should be used on the power source side of the converter.
