Tubular Skylight Kits

Nearly anyone with basic construction skills and a few hand tools can install a tubular skylight. There is no need to change any framing or perform costly sheetrock work like conventional skylights may require. Each of Daylite skylight models fit easily between standard roof/ceiling rafters and truss-bay dimensions. You will need to examine the angle of the existing roof, and measure the tube length needed to run from the collection dome assembly down to the location of the indoor diffuser. If needed, order the necessary adapters and extensions used for fitting a Daylite tubular skylight into almost any roofing configuration. It will take the typical "Do-It-Yourselfer" about three hours to install a Daylite unit on an asphalt shingle roof. Other roof types such as Tile, Shakes, or steep pitched surfaces may take longer. A Typical professional installer should take about two hours to install a Daylite unit under good conditions.

Once installed a Daylite tubular skylight is completely sealed and there should be very little,if any, maintenance over the life of the product. The major parts of the system are designed with integral seals and the site built joints are sealed with tape to reduce infiltration, eliminate dust and keep insects from entering the system. Since the exterior assembly is self flashing, and uses a dome to gather light, very little in the way of dirt or leaves should stand around the roof mounted skylight assembly.

The eight inch Daylite unit produces about the same lighting intensity as a four square foot skylight. The 12-inch unit provides the same light as an eight square foot skylight. Even on a cloudy day Daylight units produce significant light. It is common to produce about 25% of the exterior full sun levels due to the excellent transmission and reflectance characteristics in our Daylite reflective transmitting tubes. As an option, Daylite skylights can include a unique electric light back-up that can be switched on to provide continuous light when the sun goes down or when light conditions are low.

Roof Flashings

Flashings are adjustable for steep roof installations. The galvanized flashing can adjust for installation on roofs up to 7 & 12. The Aluminum Flashing can adjust for installations up to a 6 & 12 pitch. Aluminum flashings are used for installations on tile roofs as top flashings to comform to the shape of the tile. One hard galvanized "Under Flashing" is required in addition to the Soft "Top Flashing" when installing this skylight on tile roofs.

One low slope Galvanized Roof Flashing is included with each Tubular skylight kit.
